JOIE STUDIO'S STORY
It happened quite accidentally. In 2007, I was angling to separate and brand the personal and special event design work that I did with my website design business as a separate design studio focused on producing personal and special event design that is elegant, modern, and unique. At about the same time, a friend of mine asked if I wanted to take a letterpress class with her. It was serendipidity. Joie Studio was born.
Joie Studio takes it name from the famous French phrase joie de vivre. It literally means joy of living or joy of life. But it's not just a phrase. Joie de vivre is a motto to live by -- it is a worldview that tells us to enjoy every aspect of life, from the little everyday things to the extraordinary. And my intention is for the products I create to help celebrate the joys of life's special events and capture the joys of the everyday.
Letterpress is as personal of a printing process as you can get and produces elegant yet modern results, making it the perfect printing process for Joie Studio. Joie Studio's letterpress designs are conceptualized digitally, combining modern and old world techniques with a decided handmade touch: there is nothing cookie cutter about handcrafting ink colors, handfeeding paper into the press, or looking at each printed piece, one by one, to make sure it is up to our exacting standards.
I got the chance to build this business how I think a business should be run - conscious of our product, conscious of our clients, and conscious of our effect on the environment. So, please, enjoy this website, our products, and Joie Studio's blog where we share our current design and letterpress work that we're doing at Joie Studio.
And P.S., in case you're wondering, we pronounce it JOY Studio, even though it *ought* to be JWAH Studio. What can we say - we're American!
