About the Studio
I have been angling for quite some time now to separate and brand the personal and special event design work that I do with my website design business as a separate design studio focused on producing personal and special event design that is elegant, modern, and unique. That's how Joie Studio was born.
Joie Studio (pronounced "JOY," although the spelling is French and the French way to say it is "JWAH") takes it name from the famous French phrase joie de vivre. It literally means joy of living or joy of life. But it's not just a phrase. Joie de vivre is a motto to live by -- it is a worldview that tells us to enjoy every aspect of life, from the little everyday things to the extraordinary. And my intention is for the products I design to help celebrate the joys of life's events and capture the joys of the everyday.
Letterpress is as personal of a printing process as you can get and produces elegant yet modern results, making it the perfect printing process for Joie Studio. Joie Studio's letterpress designs are conceptualized digitally, combining modern and old world techniques with a decided handmade touch: the ink is mixed by hand, each individual piece of paper is fed into the press by hand, and the impression is based on the pull of the lever.
Joie Studio produces distinctive, personalized design for individuals, small businesses, and special events and occasions. We can take your design on the web and on paper and carry it through to your event with our event planning services. Please ask us about packaging our different services together to give you exactly what you need for your special day or for your everyday! Enjoy this website, our designs, and my blog where I share web and letterpress tips and the current work that we're doing at Joie Studio. I'm looking forward to working with you!

About the Dragonflies
The dragonfly represents beauty, strength, maturity, joy, and light. A powerful symbol in Eastern and Western cultures alike, the dragonfly is a creature of contrasts: born in the water, it is a creature of air with delicate wings but a ferocious strength. Dragonflies have an irridescent quality to them, giving them a special beauty and making them representative of the power of light. The way that they dart from place to place suggests happiness and joy.
The number four represents earthly things and cycles. There are four seasons, four elements (earth, fire, air, water), four directions (north, south, east, west), four phases of the moon.
We use the four dragonflies as a representation of Joie Studio's focus on the joy and happiness at every stage of life. The dragonflies symbolize Joie's fusion of old and new techniques and the combination of old world style with modern flair.
